In case you all hadn’t noticed I’ve not posted here in a while. There still isn’t anything really fun and interesting to post about. For those of you keeping score:
Dad
Hospice brought out a hospital bed last week as he is now too weak to move around much even with the walker. Yesterday he got a catheter and they left oxygen “just in case”. He’s retaining a lot of fluid – maybe 20-30 pounds of it – in his abdomen and feet/ankles. The prognosis is that the fluid will fill up his chest cavity, compress his lungs and smother him to death, and sooner rather than later. He’s on a higher dose of morphine for the pain and is sleeping a lot but when he is awake he’s still alert and knows what’s what.
This part will make you cry – well maybe not but it would if you knew him. Mom and Dad’s anniversary was on Valentine’s Day (it’s something like 54 years) and Mom’s birthday was later in February. Dad sent his brother out to buy Mom a “journey” diamond necklace. He’s not the kind of guy that says “I love you”. I don’t think I ever heard him say it either to me or to mom but we know he does. He’s just quiet about it and no one in my family really ever talks about emotions. It’s a very “do what you have to do” sort of group. But he went to the effort in his condition to send his brother out to find a 5-stone pendant so that there is one stone for each decade they have been together.
Dissertation
Squat has been done on the proposal revisions. Someone asked me last weekend what my diss was about and I drew a complete blank. I get the feeling that that’s not. good.
Knitting
I’ve completely ripped out a Baby Surprise Jacket because somewhere along the line one of the sets of increases got off center and was veering to the left rather alarmingly. I was only planning to rip back to the “knit three rows even” bit but it’s all freakin garter stitch and I couldn’t find them. I need to re-ball the yarn and start again with a better marking system.
Crochet
I have the yarn for Genevive and really. really. want to start it but I must finish the BSJ first as the baby for the BSJ is due soonish.
Cooking
I made peanut sauce for noodles for the first time last week. I have no idea why I never made it before since I LOVE it. I guess I thought the ingredients would be more exotic than they are. Anyway, it’s great but because my brain isn’t working that well these days I accidentally made three times the original amount. I want to make it again at the regular size and tweak it a bit before I post the recipe. I guess there is one good thing to blog about after all.
ChaosGirl
I don’t think I have said anything here about her and kindergarten. She starts this fall and we filled out the paperwork for it all back in December. There is a lottery system here for several magnet schools and we were hoping she would get into one of them that is close to my work and has a more active curriculum. We found out about two weeks ago that she did get in. Yay! So I guess there are two good things to blog about.
I really do have a recipe or two and an re-write of the Irish Hiking Hat pattern and all sorts of other stuff to post here once things have settled down. The artificial manipulation of the chemical processes in my brain are helping (I think) but there are still more days like this than I like to admit.
