We call ChaosGirl’s daycare center “school.” It’s just a habit we fell into and since she’s going to be going to school in some form or another for the next umpteen years it’s not a bad habit.
She gets 2 weeks of “vacation” from “school” each year that we can take and only pay half the normal fees (yeah, she’s not there AT ALL so we only have to pay half. *sigh*) Anyway, next Monday is the Memorial Day holiday we already have a short week so DH suggested we take one of the vacation weeks next week and he can take her down to his parents for a couple of days. She gets Meemaw and Papaw time and I get time to myself at home (which is a luxury for me).
She was talking to DH’s mom on the phone last night about what she wanted to do when she was down there – mainly fish off the dock at the lake (though not with a worm) and see her cousins. But she first she had to explain that she was coming down on a “not-school day” because “most of the days I have to go to school and learn things like the alphabet and my numbers.” It was quite cute.
I’m happy that she seems to like “school” and learning new things for the most part. That’s not to say we’ve not had the “I don’t want to go to school today” days. She’s had periods where it seems like she feels that she’s not doing as well as she thinks she should. When we talk to the teachers, they say she’s doing as well as or better than most of the other kids in her room. I’m not sure how much this is really about wanting to be the *best* as it is about wanting to park her rear on the sofa watch PBS Kids which is what normally happens when she stays home because she’s really sick.

when I’m sick all I want to do is watch PBS Kids while I lay on the couch as well…lol
