I realized I hadn’t said anything about Dad lately. He was finally released from the hospital late last week and moved to a nursing home up by where my folks live. Between the two hospitals he was in for 30 days. He’s weak but doing physical therapy and getting some strength back. He will probably go home tomorrow and have visiting nurse service and visiting PT for a while.
I will defend my qualifying exams next week. I haven’t touched anything related to the diss since I wrote exams before this whole mess with Dad started. I have a roll of Thin Mints, a pile of articles and books, and a blank screen. I need to have a Methods section soon. The trouble is, the methods will depend in part on who I can get to participate and how I can recruit them so in reality I need about 3 alternative Methods sections outlined until I can see what sort of access I can get.
According to Daily OM, today:
can be a positive time to take the lead with a complex and challenging project. Since you likely feel sure that your talents and creativity are equal to the task before you, your approach may be an intrepid and innovative one.
I’m not sure my committee is up to “intrepid and innovative” though. And I just want to be done.

I’m so glad your dad’s doing better and is close to home now!
And I love the PhD terminology ‘defending’…You can borrow my targe if you need it…*grin*
Hey,
.
Good news about your dad
Just read this post about your methods, after posting a comment on an earlier post about methods.
I didn’t have to put much in my exams about methods, but had to write about it a lot for IRB clearance (humans subjects protection board). I think I had 2-3 sections for different types of methods and subjects, trying to cover all possible bases. If you think seeing them might help, I can send them to you. The writing for IRB isn’t the same as for academic purposes, but you might be able to think through some of your possible populations or settings…? NP if it doesn’t interest you.
BEST!
Glad your Dad is doing better…I was thinking about you today on the way out of work/ daycare and thought…I haven’t touched base in a bit, so I need to see what’s going on! We’ll need to get the girls to run or a Saturday or Sunday playdate sometime soon.
